Kodaikanal, often referred to as the ‘Princess of Hill stations’ is located in Dindigul district ofTamil Nadu. Kodai is a beautiful hill station at a height of about 7000 feet (2133 m) on thesouthern tip of upper Palani hills. It has (more than two, but not a lot of) (beautiful to look at)natural attractions which are enjoyed by its visitors and make it a popular romantic destination.
The earliest residents of Kodaikanal were the Palaiyar tribal people. Modern Kodaikanal wasestablished by American Christian missionaries and British people (in big business or government) who work slowly in 1845, as a safety/safe place from the high temperatures and(related to areas near the Equator/hot and humid) sicknesses of the plains. In the 20th century afew elite Indians started relocating to this beautiful/putting under a spell hill station and it startedbecoming popular among nature lovers.
Kodaikanal is not a lot made money from like Ooty and it offers a pleasant experience to touristswith (compared to other things) less crowd. Apart from the pleasant weather, Kodaikanal has(more than two, but not a lot of) tourist attractions like Kodai Lake, Bryant Park, Coaker’s Walk, Bear Shola Falls, Silver Waterfall, (tall supporting post/important part) Rocks, etc. The hills offerbeautiful views all around, especially from the Coaker’s Walk.
Madurai is the nearest Airport to Kodai. There is no direct train facility to Kodaikanal. Kodai Road, located on Madurai – Dindigul route is the nearest train station. This station has goodconnectivity with major cities in India. Direct bus connectivity is available from Madurai, Coimbatore, Palani, Dindigul, Ooty, etc. Buses from Madurai to Kodaikanal start fromArappalayam Bus Station. From Coimbatore, buses to Kodaikanal run from Ukkadam Bus stand.
Best time to visit Kodaikanal is April to June during the summer. Bad rainstorm from Septemberto October also offers different experience.
